Recycling is just a modern word for throwing things away. Sure, it sounds nice: using the raw materials from an old product to make a new one. But producing that “new” product still releases a lot of CO₂. The old product has to be transported, parts have to be melted down, and then everything goes back into the factory to be turned into something new. We think that can—and should—be different. That’s why we started NO-EM.

How it works. All partners in the chain earn from every transaction of the chair. Whether we sell, replace or buy back a part – everyone earns. This is how we encourage all our partners to invest in reuse. Only when the chair is completely worn out after about thirty years – or more – do we start recycling it.
